We are the fiduciary for the Boston Retirement System, a governmental defined benefit plan.

Our board serves members and retirees of all City of Boston departments, the Boston Planning & Development Agency, the Boston Housing Authority, the Public Health Commission, and the Boston Water and Sewer Commission.

2023 NOTICE OF ELECTION FOR BRS 

It is an election year at the Boston Retirement System. There are two Retirement Board seats that must be decided by way of election. Those eligible to cast votes include: active members, inactive members and retired members (not beneficiaries).

Please note that ballots will be mailed to your address of record. If you have moved, and did not alert us, kindly contact the Board for a change of address form as soon as possible. You will have the option of mailing in a ballot or you may vote electronically.

July Retirement Check Increases:

The July retirement check includes a Medicare Refund for all those that are eligible. If you have any questions, please call Health Benefits at 617-635-4570 or email them at HBI@Boston.gov.

The July retirement check also includes a 3% COLA on the base of $15,000. for all eligible members.

Monthly pension checks will be mailed on the last Tuesday of the month. Funds for recipients who elected direct deposit will be deposited to accounts on the last Tuesday of the month with the exception of November and December.

If you would like to update your taxes, please follow the link below for the updated 2023 W4-P form. Questions regarding the form should be addressed to your tax advisor. 

2023 W4-P Form

The 2023 Biennial Affidavits have been mailed to all retirees and beneficiaries. Please complete the entire document and return before July 31, 2023 to avoid interruption of your monthly benefit. You only need the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number on the SSN line. Your signature on the Affidavit MUST be notarized in order to be accepted.

Our meetings start at 10 a.m. The meetings take place in Room 716 of Boston City Hall.
